I have been a Studebaker person since I bought a R2 Lark Convertible in 1968. My son owns this car now. I own 8 Studebakers at this time. I took my 1931 Four Seasons Roadster to meet in Indianapolis last year. After review of judging, Malcom gave it 392 points.

I have a 1963 and 2002 Avanti. I also have a ‘53 Coupe, ‘54 two-door highly modified wagon, ‘59 Scotsman pickup, ‘61 Hawk, and a ‘64 Lark convertible. All of these cars are finished. About half of them are stock and half are modified. I do all mechanical work on my cars.

I am a retired Industry Sales Executive from Exxon/Mobil in the lubricants division. My specialty was Natural Gas Engines.

I think I would be an asset to the board and look forward to the possibility of working with you and the other board members.

My interest and involvement with Studebakers in my childhood. My Dad owned a Construction Company and would only buy and drive Studebaker trucks and cars. I first joined the SDC in 1990, then became a member of the ASC in July, 2002. My involvement in ASC has steadily grown since acquiring a 1926 Big 6 Sedan EP Model which needed a fair amount of work to bring it to its current condition. We have just completed our beautiful 1931 Commander coupe.

As most of you know owning and driving Studebakers can become a real habit! We have 4 "modern" Studebakers — a 1952 2 dr. HT, a '55 President State, a '55 PU E7 and a '63 Daytona convertible, all in good running condition. As members of two SDC clubs and one ASC club we have attended SDC International meets since 1996 and ASC activities since 2002 where we have met, and enjoyed the company of many great Studebaker enthusiasts.

I thoroughly enjoy restoring, driving and sharing knowledge about Studebakers. Being fortunate to own a large supply of Studebaker parts, it gives me the opportunity to supply parts, share information with and learn from, other Studebaker owners.

I look forward to being able to serve as a Board member working to expand the hobby of Studebakers and build a bigger, stronger Antique Studebaker Club. As we all know Studebakers are the best and our goal is to get that message out.

My interest in Studebakers started in High School when I was able to start driving. My dad bought my Cousin’s 55 Studebaker Champion. After that I was a member of the San Diego Chapter of SDC.

The more I learned about Studebakers, the more I fell in love with them. Of course, I had to have different models and soon found expanding the number of Studebakers that I own. After a couple of outings with the Antique Studebaker Club, my wife informed me that it was time to own an Antique Studebaker.

Our first Antique was a 29 Erskine. It was definitely a fun car, but soon we started looking for a late 30’s or early 40’s Studebaker. We sold the Erskine and bought a 41 Commander, which we still have. It is a really fun car to drive.

In summary, I guess you could say that I bleed Studebakers, just like a lot of other members in the club and speaking of clubs, we are members of ASC, SDC, and AOAI. Guess we just love all Studebakers.

Owning my first Studebaker, a 1953 Commander hardtop, at 18 the pleasures and quirks of the South Bend breed. Though that car got sold a few years later, during the last 25 years, I've acquired a flock of five Studebakers and a Gravely tractor. Four of the cars have required substantial restoration, or in the case of my 1932 Indy car replica, creation from scratch to original plans. It has been an enjoyable journey.

Along the way, I've met and come to know Studebaker people all over the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Europe, Australia, South America, and Africa. I've been active in local car club chapters and served on the board of the Studebaker Drivers Club. As I've learned more about pre-WWII cars and trucks, it has expanded my interest in the older cars and the early history of Studebaker car making and marketing. I've been fortunate to meet many ASC people who share those interests. Club members have a wealth of knowledge and experience that they have willingly shared, and I enjoy sharing mine.

As a member of the board, I would like to harness the energy of active club members to help preserve the Studebaker legacy. I bring more than 50 years of engineering, marketing, and management experience; and as a retiree, I have the time and energy to devote to the Antique Studebaker Club.

I came into the Studebaker owner’s family later in life as being in the military and overseas for 15 years you don’t get exposed to American classic autos as much. After retiring from the Air Force and getting reacquainted with my family, Studebakers came up a lot and with my interest in collecting, I acquired a ‘49 Land Cruiser and took my parents to their 50th anniversary in it. Being a more of a truck person I bought a ‘51 ½ ton Stake Bed.

I joined the SDC in 2000 and became president and my wife became vice president of the Arizona chapter in 2011 for 6 years. I became the Chief Judge for SDC and during those 4 years got to know the antique cars and people, which I found to be very willing to share reflections and support as needed. I am serving on the board of the Studebaker Drivers Club. I am currently the President of the Arizona State Chapter Antique Studebaker Club and also the editor of the “Saguaro Sage” the antique club’s newsletter where I try to always feature an antique history item. I was able to secure a ‘39 Coupe Express but with a move to a location without proper storage the rabbits found it a confronting place to nest. I have now relocated it to Kentucky where it is undergoing some needed changes. I also own a ‘59 Lark two door wagon.

As a board member I would work hard to keep the club membership actively healthy and continuously moving toward better brand awareness in the car collecting world. We know that Studebakers are Great and I will help show that Antique Studebaker People are the greatest.

George Vassos

George Vassos
Westfield, Massachusetts

My name is George Vassos. I live in Westfield, Massachusetts. I have enjoyed working on cars since I was a teenager. I have been a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club and Avanti Own Association since 1978, when my buddy George Rohrbach introduced me to Studebakers while were in dental school together.

I have restored a number of Studebakers before making my foray into the world of pre-war Studebakers ten years ago. I did a total restoration of a 1923 Studebaker Light Six Roadster and I was hooked. I joined the Antique Studebaker Club about that time and have met many wonderful people in the ASC. I now count many of the Antique Studebaker Club members as my friends. Currently, I am restoring a 1932 Studebaker President 4 door convertible sedan one of two known to exist.

I consider myself the current caretaker of this very special classic era Studebaker. I enjoy listening, reading and learning about these wonderful pieces of American history, and I also enjoy sharing what I have learned with others. I quickly learned that the best way to restore one of the pre-war Studebakers is through networking with others in the club.

I look forward to the honor of serving as a board member and expanding my help to others and networking to make a stronger Antique Studebaker Club.

I’m Jane Ash. My husband, Gary, and I live in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. My Studebaker adventure began in 1996 when we bought a 1965 Wagonaire, followed by the acquisition of a 1948 M5 truck a couple of years later.

We joined SDC and ASC. I volunteered at Northeast Zone meets, organized local chapter events, and was the chapter's membership secretary for several years. I was the Chair of the 2016 SDC Meet in Warwick, RI. I worked with ASC Meet Chairs George Vassos and Paul Derosier to coordinate the 2016 ASC Meet.

Gary and I purchased our 1941 Studebaker Commander so we could participate in more events for pre-war cars. We have attended meets and driving tours all over the country, including some hosted by VMCCA and AACA. I organized the VMCCA 2018 Heritage Tour in Westport, MA.

I have served as the Secretary of the ASC Board for two years. I want to bring my event planning experience, board participation background, and enthusiasm for Studebakers to the ASC board, because Gary and I want to keep meeting our friends and fellow Studebaker enthusiasts for more car events around the country.

I’m one of the Founding Members of ASC, having joined the 1st year the club was organized. I joined as soon as I received the mailing from founder Bill Cannon. I've sat in on a number of ASC Board Meetings at the International Meets over the years and have come to find out how the club and in particular how the Board operates. I've only missed attending a few of the International Meets over the years, basically then due to the fact I couldn't get off work. I'm retired now so that's not a problem anymore.

I was the ASC Chairman of the recently held International Meet in Mansfield, Ohio, in 2019. Having done that, I learned a great deal more about how the club operates and the help the Board can be in running a Meet. Over the years I've become friends with many of the Board members and other members of the club.

Since I retired I've been able to now travel around the country and attend a number of chapter events in the past 4 years. This is something I've been wanting to do for many years, but was unable to due to not having as much time off work as I wanted. Being a newly appointed Board Member, I'm just beginning to get my feet wet and would like to remain a member to help guide the club.

I was recently appointed chairperson to be the 2021 International Meet Chairman in Indianapolis and the 2022 International Meet in South Bend, Indiana.

Look forward to seeing many of you at the meet.

Kent Vandenberg

Kent Vandenberg
Palm Springs, California

I’m Kent Vandenberg, and I have been the Treasurer of the Antique Studebaker Club since 2014. I am running for the ASC Board and presume to continue being the Treasurer if elected.

My commitments to the members are to pay club expenses promptly to keep us in good standing with our service providers, to diligently account for every penny spent and paid to ASC, and to regularly publish an easy to read Treasurer report so members "know where we stand" with regard to our cash flow, income and expense items, and membership demographics. These reports help the Board anticipate future club needs and avert issues.

I appreciate your vote if this is what you want for your club Treasurer and if you like what I have done for the past seven years. Thank you.

Many of you know me from SDC where I held numerous positions on the Board and have worked on several committees. Bob and I have shifted our energies to ASC and we are both currently serving on its Board. I am currently the Secretary for ASC. My experience in Studebakers goes quite a ways back, dating to when he gave me a '50 Starlight Coupe project car for my fiftieth birthday which we have since restored. In the intervening years we have owned numerous Studebakers, both pre-war and later models.

I believe in giving back to my community and my Studebaker Community is no different. I have held officer positions in our Lo-Cal chapter, (currently Treasurer), and have been active in the national SDC being President of the club, Vice President and a Regional Manager, plus working on numerous committees. Both Bob and I participate as much as possible at all levels of SDC and ASC. Our "antique" Studes are a 1924 Touring car and a '37 Dictator coupe. One of the things we enjoy the most about ASC is the driving tours and of these cars are great touring cars.

As an ASC Board I am dedicated to serving the members and working to keep the club healthy. All car clubs face declining memberships now and ASC is no different. I will continue to show our cars and encourage people to participate in our terrific sport!

My interest in Studebakers dates from my days as a tyke. My dad, following in his dad's footsteps, liked Studebakers. We had a '54 Land Cruiser and '37 Dictator 4-door sedan. After a bout with "brand x's", I returned to the fold in the early '80's with a '51 2R-11 as my work truck and a '62 GT as our family car. We currently have six antiques: four '30's road art trucks, a '24 Light Six touring, and a '37 Dictator coupe.

Mimi and I are currently members of seven Studebaker clubs. I am currently President of the So Cal ASC Chapter and President in charge of Vice for the national ASC. I believe I have the experience necessary to represent the best interests of my fellow ASC members as an ASC Bored member."
