Frank Wenzel

Frank Wenzel
Palm Springs, California
I have only been participating in the Antique Studebaker Club for a few years.  I have already been to 3 International Meets and have attended many Zone Meets and Chapter activities. My first Studebaker was a 1952 Starlight coupe with 24,000 original documented miles. It had been sitting under a carport for more than 15 years and it needed a lot of work! While I was giving it that much needed TLC, I met many wonderful Studebaker people and had a whole lot of fun redoing the car.  Since then, I have gained 14 more Studebaker's. Two of my newest acquisitions are my 1926 Duplex Phaeton Arizona Sheriff and a 1942 Commander Land Cruiser.
I am a member of several chapters and attend any Stude meet that I can. I was recently elected onto the board of the Southern California Chapter of The Antique Studebaker Club as Zone Champion. Last year, I hosted a So. Cal. Chapter Tour at my home in Palm Springs. Having received such great reviews, plans are under way to repeat it again 2008.
In addition to my cars, I also enjoy collecting anything to do with Studebaker's, such as signs, literature, brochures, models, parts and memorabilia.
There were many Studebaker's in my childhood. My grandmother, my great aunt, my step grandparents and my mother all drove Studebakers. This past summer while on the way home from the International Meet in South Bend, I stopped to see my relatives in Minnesota and found out that my step grand-father owned the Studebaker dealership in Faribault, Minnesota. The previous year, I stopped by my cousins house and found that I am a shirt tale relative of Fred Fox. I guess it is in the blood.
My cars and garage were recently featured in Hemmings Motor News; in the article, they referred to me as the “accidental Studebaker collector”. I have participated on many City and Charitable Boards over the years and feel I have the organizational skills that can help the organization prosper. I love my Stude's and I hope that if elected to the National Board, I can help promote the growth of the club and help others maintain their interests.

Sam Bailey

Sam Bailey
Downey, California
I’ve been involved with Studebakers since 1996, when my wife Rhonda and I accidentally came across the International Meet in Long Beach, Ca. Being a lifelong mechanic and currently with 27 years as a vehicle technician with Verizon, I’ve always had a fascination with prewar cars that I also shared with my Father. That led me to participate in the reincarnation of the Southern California Chapter of the Antique Studebaker Club in July 2002. Currently, I am proud to say I’m the current President. This great group of people in the club has not only kept it interesting and fun, but has been very supportive in my learning process of the hobby of Studebakers. With Rhonda’s help, we now share a small collection consisting of a 1923 EK Big Six 5 passenger coupe, 1936 Dictator Sedan, 1953 2R5 pick up and her beautiful red 1961 Hawk. We both look forward to attending our local chapter meetings and hearing all our friends’ wonderful stories. Every year since, it seems that we plan our vacations to include Studebaker events around the country.
